From Tradition to Innovation: New Foods and Educational Toolkits for a Healthy and Sustainable Mediterranean Lifestyle (Tool4MEDLife)

The Mediterranean diet is often popular for its beneficial effects on health, especially in preventing obesity and various non-communicable diseases. However, in recent years, a trend towards a Western dietary pattern has been observed, driven by cultural and social changes that encourage unsustainable food consumption, which raises concerns from both a health and environmental perspective. In this context, the Tool4MEDLife project aims to investigate dietary habits and adherence to the Mediterranean diet among populations in the Mediterranean region.

The project aims to: conduct a comprehensive study aimed at identifying key factors that promote the adoption of healthy eating habits, with a focus on adherence to the Mediterranean diet; create innovative food products inspired by Mediterranean culinary traditions, including functional ingredients derived from organic waste to increase sustainability and nutritional value while reducing food waste. The project will design new toolkits (games, apps, e-cookbooks) for education on the Mediterranean diet adapted to age and food groups. Tailored strategies and educational resources will be designed to raise awareness about a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, encouraging the adoption of Mediterranean dietary recommendations.
